Idea’s and Inspiration

As of late, well, let’s call it a while, I haven’t really kept up with blogging all that much.  I’ve posted a few Random Short Stories, and more of Black-Heart, but not many ideas or updates on life or writing, which I feel is what people would rather read than waiting for a new update on Black-Heart.  I know I get frustrated when my favorite web-comics don’t update on time.  Regardless, I haven’t been active on the blog and that can drive readers away too.  And if content is bland and there are days when I’m pretty bland– I digress though.

The reason I’m writing today is just what the title says.  I’ve got some ideas and inspiration that have been popping into my head and I want to expand upon them.

Lately, when I’ve had a good chunk of time, I’ve been binging on an anime called Fairy Tail.  Great anime in my opinion (if you are an anime fan or know what anime is. If not that’s ok too, just skip ahead).  I describe it as a combination of Naruto and One Piece, silly but with some serious parts.  Lots of epic battles and a great overarching storyline.  Sadly it ends at episode 175.  I hear it cuts out mid-story-arc, but I’ve heard a rumor (not sure if it’s true) that it’s going to start up again in September sometime.  I’m hopeful!

All the epicness going on in the story-arc I’m in right now has been getting my mind whirling with ideas and epicness for my own stories.  I’ve been fixated on Jayko lately and a specific scene which has been developing in my head.  I want it to be epic and to have a multitude of things going on at once as it’s a battle scene.  I’ve already posted about three parts of the scene as Random Short Stories.  But there’s still more to come.  I just haven’t worked it out completely yet.

So, far I’ve brought back the Commandos from a previously trunked story, set up a massive fleet for Jayko to command, taken that fleet to the doorstep of the enemy, dropped mechs right into the middle of a battlefield and set up the main characters to head into heavy fighting.  I’ve got ideas whirling around that I need to develop on where the Commandos and Jayko have to fight their way to a key control center.  I want them to encounter heavy resistance and to be not be able to stop the Wormhole Gate they are assaulting from being activated.

Trying to add on to the epicness that I’m trying to go for, Jayko calls in Helios Station, an ancient space station of massive proportions that drops from FTL into the middle of the space battle and absorbs the brunt of the energy projected into space by the Wormhole Gate, stopping it from opening.

What’s been difficult for me with all of this, has been trying to convey everything that’s happening in the battle at once, to give the reader a rush as they progress through the battle following the Commandos.  To convey the size of the Gate and Helios Station.  The awe as it drops into battle, scattering dreadnaught size battleships as it moves into position over the planet.

So my question to all you other writers out there is this:  How do you convey something that’s supposed to be fast paced, that’s supposed to have something big happen that makes your characters stop and stare, and think, “Holy-sh–t!”?

And if you’re not a writer but a reader:  What do you think makes a scene in a book give you that same feeling described above?

A Long While

Or at least that’s what it’s felt like.  I can’t remember when it was that I last posted, but it has been a while.  As this Spring Term of college comes to a close I find myself winding down from all the tension and stress of classes and into a sort of acceptance of my performance, or lack-there-of this term.  I worked hard on many of my classes, but sometimes, things just don’t click and you don’t get the grade you want.  Let’s just say, I’m happy with a passing grade and not having to retake the class.

Anyway, I’m not here to lament about college and all that, I’m here to talk about writing!

I have very few updates and couple things I’m going to try and do in the next week.  Good news is, I got Star Catcher published in paperback and it looks great!  I need to post a link on the site for it still, it’s something I’ve been meaning to do, but have not gotten around to doing.  The book’s up and ready for purchase though CreateSpace, by Amazon.  It’s print on demand, and sadly will not be in bookstores, but nevertheless, it’s superb news!

Next update I have is about Aaron’s Story, Black-Heart.  I dropped it back when NaNoWriMo started, I believe, can’t quite remember, and I never picked it back up as I was out of ideas and wasn’t sure where I was going with it.  So, I spent some time reading through the older posts to refresh myself and boy do I have to do some editing on many of those posts.  Lots of little things, but it was hard to just read and not see them.  So I will need to go back, but that’s for later when I have the time.

The reason I bring Aaron back up, is I was able to finish off the last scene I was writing about him and I want to start posting again.  When we left off with him, he’d just gotten his backside handed to him by Barret Bray, his long time rival, and had just finished healing and catching up with Grace back onboard the airship.  He was just starting back into his old training regimen, deciding that he needs to get stronger if he wants to beat Barret.  And, following this quick recap, the next post will pick up right with where we left off with him starting his training.

So, happy reading, happy writing, and… happy final’s week to all of you who have college!  Don’t stress out too much!  Good advice all around.

Cheers!

NaNoWriMo Update

It’s been a while since I was able to sit down a actually post something in the past few weeks.  I kinda figured this would happen.  School takes up a ton what would be considered free time when you’re learning engineering.  And on that note, I will say that I have not been able/motivated to squeeze in writing for NaNo in what little time I do have that’s free.  I haven’t given up yet, but let’s just say that I’m going to be doing a lot of writing this weekend if I want to catch up.

But, until then, lots of class, lots of homework.  Here’s an excerpt!  Cheers!

Update on Black-Heart

Well, here we are again… and I have no real updates on what’s been happening with Theo’s Story.  I’m still stuck on a title, and like I keep telling myself, I just need to sit down and start working on the cover art.  It’ll probably help me get ideas into my head for what I want the title to be–hopefully.

On the other end of things I was going strong with Black-Heart for a while there, but as I was writing this last part of it, I was having trouble coming up with a transition between scenes.  Aaron’s hurt bad and Van just showed Barret a thing or two about fighting and now I’m stuck.  I need to make a transition that gets them out of the city and onto Aaron’s ship again.  And I have a feeling it’s going to take more than just one post to do it.  There’s a lot that I would like to see happen in between.  Especially with what was happening with Aaron and Grace just before Barret interrupted.

Oh!  P.S.  — If you haven’t been reading Black-Heart this post does contain some spoilers.  Probably should have put that at the beginning.  Oh well, I’ll try not to spoil too much for anyone.

And for those of you who haven’t read it and are waiting for it to be complete before you read it, I have good news for you!  I started in on consolidating the posts into yWriter (the novel writing software I use), and will probably start in on editing and getting it put together into a more novel-esque format.  That way when the story is all done and finished, all of you waiting to read it in it’s entirety will have it in a nice little easy to read package.

Now, back to spoilers!

What I have planned for Aaron is a recovery and training session in the next posts after I make the transition to his ship somehow.  I want him to realize that he needs to learn how to use his power and find a way to control the curse somehow to make himself stronger.  So for that he will be needing to turn to Van.  I would also like Grace to join him on board his ship as they leave the Flying City again on their way to Mai’s target.  My problem that I’m having is that Grace needs to break ties with her current guy friend in the city before she can take off with Aaron.  And I have a feeling that’s going to be tough to do.

I guess all I can do is to keep writing and see what happens!

Happy writing, all!

Cheers!

Where I’ve been and Where I’m Going

Well, what a coincidence… meeting you here. Oh wait, that’s your line.  I haven’t written anything on here for a while now, if two weeks counts as a while.  It sure seems like it, a lot has happened for me.

I finished off my spring term of college and it’s well into summer now, and I’m starting my Summer term today.  Yes, I’m taking summer classes, but not because I have to, I just was to see if I can get a little bit ahead and take some of the load off of this coming Fall term.  It’s going to be hectic, or so I hear.

In these past weeks, I’ve had a nice break though. I got to go home and see my family, which I was really happy to do, and just chill for a week before I have to get back to the grind.

So, I’m back, or mostly back.  This next week is going to be an interesting one.  I’m kinda between homes right now, and on July 1st I get my apartment.  Yay!  Big yay!  It’s a new step for me and hopefully it won’t be too stressful with moving and going to class.  Thankfully I only have two classes, but I think they will prove to be a challenge nonetheless.

Needless to say this will all effect this blog.  I will try to get back to a regular posting schedule during the summer, but with these next weeks keeping me moving around, I will be hard pressed to get much writing or thinking on my novel done.  And sadly, over my break, I’ve had not inspiration as to the title for Theo’s Story… so that’s still sitting at the forefront of my list of things to get done this summer.  Hopefully in the next month, I would like to have another book to publish and present to you guys.

That’s kinda where I’m going, and where I’ve been.  I’m going to resume with writing Black-Heart if my creativity will let me.  I’ve hit a brick wall with him, so, the story may get a little rocky as I try to smash through the wall.  Brute force style of course, write until something strikes me.

I’ll update on what’s happening with Theo when something new decides to happen.  And I think it’s time a sat down and did some brainstorming sessions which is what I’m off to do next after finishing this post.  Speaking of which, when you all have something that needs some brainstorming, how do you go about it?  I’d like to hear how you brainstorm and come about your own inspiration.

Long Time, Short Update

Hey all!  Yeah, I know I’ve been silent for at least a week now.  Things have gotten rather complicated here at college and I suddenly just kinda dropped off the face of the Earth, both metaphorically and physically.

So, short update, college sucks.  It’s not easy and I was having doubts, but got my reasons for being here reaffirmed and I was able to banish my doubts.  Still though, college is kicking my ass, and I could use a break but I’m not going to get it.

I did however finish my last edit of Theo’s Story.  I still don’t have a better title for it, or any idea as to what do to for cover art.  I’m soooo close to getting it published and finished and all pretty like, but my lack of creativity is rearing it’s ugly head and I just can’t seem to find a good title.

Maybe someday soon I will.  But as for what else it going on, I’ve entered a Minecraft building competition with the Gaming Club here at college and that too will be consuming my time.  I’m building something super-duper awesome that it will make everyone else jealous.

Other than that, I have the next Black-Heart installment I will be finishing up soon, for those of you reading it.

So, all is more or less well and fine here.

Happy Writing!

Cheers!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I’m afraid I don’t have much more to say than that. I’ve never been one for looking back on the year, I’ve always been one to look ahead. This next year should be an interesting one. I transition from a college sophomore to a junior this next year and hopefully will get closer to my ultimate goal of world domination publishing Star Catcher! And I’ll be seeing if I can find a place to live off campus, but hopefully still close to the college, and finally get out of the dorms.

It should be a busy year with lots to look toward accomplishing.

I wish everyone a Happy and Fun Filled New Year and will see you all in 2012!

Cheers!
